Issue #12
Hi Page Turners,
I have had a busy, busy week. And I always end up somehow questioning where does the time go. There are not enough hours in the day but thankfully by the end of the month I should hopefully get some free time. Have you been busy this week let me know by replying to this email or commenting below. I am nosy so don't spare on the details. 😁
Books 📚
This week I read two great but very different books. I read a thriller/crime called Wrong Place Wrong Time by Gillian McAllister. My first book by the author. Quite a slow start but bare with it because it does hook you in and that ending will mess with you. Read my full review- https://www.goodreads.com/review/show/5546557070?book_show_action=false
I then picked up a memoir by Pamela Anderson called Love Pamela. Is it to early to say that it is probably one if my favourite memoir/non-fiction reads of the year. Inspiring and heart-breaking I urge EVERYONE to read it. Full review here- https://www.goodreads.com/review/show/5550071911?book_show_action=false
Opinion piece📰
Do you know what The Nakba means? It was a time in 1948 where Palestinians were exiled from their own homes and also were killed. I came across this video and was ( kind of surprised) not surprised to learn about British involvement. Check it out here:
I can't wait for Break Point part two in June.
This was so fun to watch but I missed not having Nick, and Ons in it.
Further reading 📑
Knowing that Pamela Anderson made a Netflix documentary based of the book and her son directed or produced it. You bet it is on my to be watched. You all should put it on your TBW as well!
I also loved this interview that she did: not me going down a Pam rabbit hole 😉
So Sam Altman spoke in US congress this week. No comment. And I know it is easy for me to say but before you put something out in the world, wouldn't you make every effort to regulate it, know the risks, pros and cons etc. 😩 I do agree with what he is saying as society we should make every effort to regulate tech like this!

💭 My 3 am thoughts 🕒
Like millions of others I am utterly obsessed with Titanic. I have watched the film a gazillion of times and it never fails to move me. I have watched umpteen amount of docs about it and I just can't get enough. So when new scans emerged this week I couldn't get enough of it. https://www.telegraph.co.uk/news/2023/05/17/titanic-wreck-atlantic-ocean-3d-scan-iceberg-impact/
Quote of the week ✏
'History is often rewritten to create heroes out of monsters. Or vice versa. The truth always comes to the surface, eventually.'
'Her story reminded me how awful celebrity can be, how some women are painfully targeted, and how much it hurts to be exploited. Used and objectified constantly. It can destroy every bit of belief you have in yourself. It is not easy to reconcile the love and admiration you feel from most of the world and the loneliness, abuse and deceit of some of those closest to you.'
Taken from Love Pamela- p.s she wrote this without the help of a ghoetwriter, she needs to write more even fiction because I would read anything she writes.
If you have got this far thank you for reading. Do you share my obsessions and my opinions on the above. Let me know of any of your top picks of the week or if you agree/disagree with anything of the above by replying to this email or commenting above. Hope you look forward to next week's issue. ✉
