Issue #19
Hi Page Turners,
Wimbledon is finally here! Grass, strawberries and tennis balls for the next two weeks. There is a load of drama from Andy Murray trying to capture what he did ten years ago. My heart BROKE for him on Friday I really wanted it for him but it just wasn't to be. Just Stop Oil protests disrupting matches. Over on my blog the monthly wrap up post for June is up. And my update of the month is also on the blog- https://fizwrites.wixsite.com/website/post/update-5
Are you a fan of tennis? If so email back your favourite grand slam and why and who you are rooting for? What was your favourite/least favourite read of June? Reply back to this email or comment below.
Books 📚
This week I finished Counterfeit by Kristen Chen. Review here- https://www.goodreads.com/review/show/5667185282?book_show_action=false it was a great book and it got me out of a slump. Just imagine a black market for designer handbags (and later on jewellery) parenting societal expectation, Ivy League education and the scandal. If your interested you will love this book.
I also finally wrote a review for the audiobook of Taylor Jenkins Reid's Carrie Soto is Back. Yes I am still talking about it. Read the full essay review here- https://fizwrites.wixsite.com/website/post/carrie-soto-is-back-break-point-a-review
Have you read it, are you just as obsessed as I am? If you haven't read it... well this is a sign go and read it.
Opinion piece📰
I love Jennifer Lawrence because she is naturally funny so I love watching her interviews and this was a great watch.
Talking about watching things I love watching fashion shows. Because in my head I am already creating mood boards and inspo's...but saying that I am not a fashion person at all. I don't really follow brands I would say I am Ava before she meets Winnie 😁(characters from the book Counterfeit). Do you sense a but... well you would be correct because I would love either one of these to design a dress for me! So just me putting it out to the universe.

Do you think about the time? Yes of course I do I think about it all the time. (Is I think how majority of people would respond) well the big ol' question of how did it start? Here is a really great article that discusses exactly this! - https://theconversation.com/ancient-egyptians-measured-the-first-hour-and-changed-how-we-related-to-time
💭 My 3 am thoughts 🕒
Climate change is a real thing and I think it is more widely acknowledged. In June with the extreme heatwave several countries have experienced are to do with climate change. I also watched a really great doc fronted by Steve Backshall (remember him- Deadly 60) who climbed a mountain and saw the extent of climate change first hand. I say all of this because of the recent protests. Protests are so important and imperative for change however I feel its lost its essence almost when it comes to climate change. I agree it needs more coverage and more action needed but I feel like those who are protesting can put their use somewhere more productive.
Quote of the week ✏
'You must stop in the middle of chaos to take in the world around you to breath in deeply to smell the sunscreen and the rubber of the ball let the breeze blow across your neck feel the warmth of the sun on your skin.' Taken from Carrie Soto is Back.
'The point is they're status symbols. A Harvard degree is not so different from a designer handbag. They both signal that you're part of the club, they open doors.' Taken from Counterfeit.
