Books 📚
This week in read two really great books. One of them I will not be able to stop recommending and talking about. Know Your Place by Dr Faiza Shaheen is an amazingly detailed and well written book that challenges the idea that social mobility is a real thing. Before I write a full essay about why you should read this book ready my full review here- https://www.goodreads.com/review/show/5812478319?book_show_action=false
I also finished a memoir by Trever Noah called Born A Crime another amazing book. Also really good and important read to educate yourself on Apartheid. https://www.goodreads.com/review/show/5828979534
🎧 Podcast
I have been listening to Good Bad Billionaire on BBC Sounds and I am loving it.
https://www.bbc.co.uk/sounds/brand/p0g7xj36
It fits in nicely with the first book I mentioned because it challenges the idea and concept of 'making it'. They track down the billionares journey and decide whether they are 'good' or 'bad'. The first two episodes are on Jeff Bezos and Rhianna. Highly recommend.
Opinion piece📰
The prisoner escapee is just another reminder of an area of where the government are failing us. Understaffed and with the prison cuts is the final straw. Similar to primary schools with the RAAC.
Further reading 📑
This was a great long read on the US current climate and election it was particularly interesting especially with the G20 Summit taking place in India currently.

💭 My 3 am thoughts 🕒
The whether is seriously messing with me. I just about come to terms with having no sun this summer and then this happens at the start of Autumn, typical British whether for you.
Quote of the week ✏
'The idea that an individual just needs to be at the top of the food chain so they don't get eaten. Yet history tells us that we will only truly prosper if we prosper together. What if life wasn't shaped primarily by luck? What if we made sure that you live a good life wherever you are born and to whatever circumstances.' Taken from Know Your Place by Dr Faiza Shaheen.
'The hood made me realise that crime succeeds because crime does the one thing the government doesn't do: crime cares. Crime is grassroots. Crime looks for the young kids who need support and a lifiting hand. Crime offers internship programs and summer jobs and opportunities for advancement. Crime gets involved in the community. Crime doesn't discriminate.' - Taken from Born A Crime by Trever Noah.
