Issue #53
Hi Page Turners,
Have you been listening to any podcasts recently? I am looking for recommendations to listen to any great ones. True crime, factual, entertainment I really don't mind. If you know of any great ones be sure to comment below or reply back to this e-mail. How has your week been so far? Before the weekend approaches write a to-do list to tackle the jobs you are avoiding and confront them, that way you can get them out of the way before the weekend approaches. (Note to self- this applies to me too😂😂)
Reading 📚
I HAVE to recommend this brilliant debut novel. It is called 'One Small Voice' by Santanu Bhattacharya and it follows a protagonist who deals with a traumatic secret as he grows up. With the backdrop of modern India and cultural references galore this was written so beautifully. My second (I think) 5* read of the year. I also finished In Memoriam by Alice Winn. I didn't enjoy as much (I think because I couldn't relate to the privilege and the characters) but I appreciated the representation of how the author depicted war and how it affects mental health etc. Read the review here- https://www.goodreads.com/review/show/6296207668?book_show_action=false
Let me know what you have read recently, or if you have read any of the above.

After reading Babel by R. F. Kuang I have been obsessed with her work. It also helps that she has a Substack and my favourite reads of hers is- https://rfkuang.substack.com/p/who-gets-to-be-authentic-anyways

As I am trying to eat more healthy I am more aware of what I consume. This report of how UPF's puts our health at risk it makes me think of labelling and advertising. Like they do with cigarettes and alcohol shouldn't they make consumers aware of the dangers. Talking of health obesity is now a bigger threat to global health than hunger. Let that just sink in. It is a bigger threat than HUNGER. This is something in our control and every effort should be made to tackle this epidemic.
Joe Biden said that he believed that a ceasefire agreement between Israel and Hamas could be reached But there is still no ceasefire in Gaza. He also said the aid truck situation where more than a hundred Palestinians were killed in the early hours of Thursday morning, complicated 'talks' of a ceasefire. What a gut wrenching situation in which desperate crowds gathered around aid trucks and Israeli troops opened fire. Over 30,000 people have been killed, while 1.2 million people have been displaced from their homes. Now that one of the holiest months is approaching 'Ramadan', and every Ramadan Palestinians have been attacked. Will they be able to experience this Ramadan without the worry of being attacked?
