How did your Ramadan journey begin, and how has it evolved over the years? Being born Muslim, Ramadan has always been a cherished part of my life. However, during my adolescence, I often saw it as a challenge—a test to endure solely for the sake of Allah. It wasn’t until a few years ago that I began to truly appreciate its spiritual richness. Alhamdulillah, I made it a tradition to read the Quran in Arabic from start to finish every Ramadan. This year, by Allah’s permission, I completed the entire Quran in just two weeks, which allowed me to delve into its translation and reflect on its profound meanings. As Ramadan comes to an end, I find myself already longing for its departure and praying that the imaan gained will remain steadfast in my heart.
2. What are your favorite activities or traditions during Ramadan that bring you joy and peace? Ramadan is a time of personal growth and community connection. I love dedicating myself to the Quran, and this year, finishing both its Arabic and translated readings brought immense joy and peace to my heart. I also thoroughly enjoy cooking during Ramadan, alhamdulillah. This year, I’ve explored making English dishes with my own flair—shepherd’s pie, chicken pie, and more. They’ve added a touch of comfort to our iftar meals, even if western food can sometimes feel a bit bland!
Can you share a special memory or experience from past Ramadans that holds a significant place in your heart? One treasured memory dates back to my childhood Ramadan. My siblings and I spent much of our fasting hours watching TV. On one particular day, although I was engrossed in a film, I quietly turned away, went upstairs, and picked up the Quran to read instead. That moment stood out to me—it was an undeniable gift of imaan brought forth by Ramadan, the kind that transforms your heart in ways no other time can.
What is your go-to dish or favorite food that you look forward to breaking your fast with during Ramadan? While experimenting with cooking has been fun, nothing beats a hearty homemade shepherd’s pie or chicken pie during iftar. These meals have become staples in our Ramadan kitchen, bringing both comfort and nourishment after a day of fasting.
What are your favorite activities or traditions that bring you closer to your community during Ramadan? Iftar socials with friends and family hold a special place in my heart. There’s nothing more fulfilling than breaking a fast alongside your loved ones, sharing not just food, but laughter, connection, and blessings. It’s a tradition that makes Ramadan even more meaningful. May Allah accept our fasts and efforts—Ameen.
I want to take a moment to express my heartfelt thanks to
for sharing her Ramadan reflections. As Eid draws near, let us carry these lessons and moments of reflection with us into the coming months. May we continue to nurture the imaan and habits we’ve cultivated during this blessed time, and may Allah accept all our efforts—Ameen.
